Travellers who want Kerala's classic circuit in five days: hills, wildlife country and backwaters. It suits families and couples who prefer a ready-made plan to a self-driven trip, and who are comfortable with a few long drives between regions.

Who this trip is not for

If you want only four days, see our shorter Munnar and Alleppey package. If you want beaches such as Kovalam, or a houseboat night, check our longer Kerala packages or ask us about options. Also note that Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey are far apart, so this trip includes long drives on several days.

Day-wise plan

Day 1 – Cochin to Munnar: Pick-up at Cochin and a scenic drive to Munnar, with a visit to the birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya and waterfalls on the way. Hotel check-in.

Day 2 – Munnar sightseeing: Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake and Echo Point, with tea country views. Overnight in Munnar.

Day 3 – Munnar to Thekkady: Drive to Thekkady, the gateway to the Periyar Tiger Reserve, and check in. Optional activities are available on request.

Day 4 – Thekkady to Alleppey: Drive to Alleppey and check in at a backwater resort. Enjoy the quiet waterways and village surroundings.

Day 5 – Kochi sightseeing and departure: Drive to Kochi for Marine Drive and Fort Kochi, then a drop for your onward journey.

What to know before you book

Thekkady activities, such as nature walks, are optional and usually paid separately. Timings and availability depend on forest department rules and the season.
Seeing a tiger at Periyar is rare. Wildlife sightings depend on luck, season and time of day.
Munnar is cooler than the plains, so carry a light jacket. Ghat roads are winding, so carry medicines if you get motion sickness.
Alleppey is a backwater resort stay in this package. A houseboat is not listed, so ask us if you want one.

Best time to visit

September to March is generally the most comfortable season, with December to February the coolest in Munnar. June to August is the monsoon: Kerala is very green, but heavy rain can disrupt plans and roads. April and May are warmer, especially in Alleppey.

How many days do you need for Munnar, Thekkady and Alleppey?
Five days is a good minimum for this circuit, because the drives between the three regions are long.

How much is this 4 nights 5 days Kerala tour?
It starts from ₹12,000. Please confirm whether the price is per person or per couple, and whether GST applies, when you enquire.

Is Thekkady worth including?
It adds forest scenery and a wildlife setting that Munnar and Alleppey do not have. If you only want hills and backwaters, a 4 day package is shorter.

Will I see a tiger at Periyar?
Rarely. Tigers are very hard to spot. Elephants, birds and other wildlife are more likely, depending on the season and time of day.

Is a houseboat included?
No. The itinerary lists a backwater resort stay in Alleppey. Ask us if you want a houseboat option.

Where does the tour start and end?
It starts with a pick-up at Cochin, and ends with Kochi sightseeing and a drop for your onward journey.

Are elephant rides included?
No. Optional activities are listed separately, and we suggest asking us about nature walks and other low-impact options at Thekkady.

Day 01: COCHIN – MUNNAR

After arrival at Cochin Airport/Railway Station, meet our representative and proceed to Munnar. En route, visit the birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya and enjoy beautiful waterfalls and scenic nature spots. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel and relax. Overnight stay at the hotel in Munnar.

Day 02: MUNNAR

After breakfast, proceed for a full-day sightseeing tour of Munnar, situated at the confluence of three mountain streams—Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala—and located at an altitude of 1600 meters above sea level. This beautiful hill station was once the summer resort of the British government in South India. Visit Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake, and Echo Point. Return to the hotel and relax. Overnight stay at the hotel in Munnar.

Day 03: MUNNAR – THEKKADY

After breakfast, proceed to Thekkady, home to the famous Periyar Tiger Reserve. Spread over 777 sq. km, this reserve is one of South India’s most popular wildlife destinations, known especially for elephants. Set around the scenic Periyar Lake, it attracts thousands of visitors every year. You may enjoy an optional elephant ride at your own cost. Upon arrival, check in to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel in Thekkady.

Day 04: THEKKADY – ALLEPPEY

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to Alleppey. Check in to the backwater resort and enjoy the serene beauty of Kerala’s famous backwaters. Relax and unwind amidst the peaceful surroundings. Overnight stay at the hotel/resort in Alleppey.

Day 05: ALLEPPEY – COCHIN AIRPORT

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to Kochi. Visit Marine Drive Kochi and Fort Kochi. Later, you will be dropped at Cochin Airport/Railway Station for your onward journey.
