Families and couples who want Kerala's hills, backwaters and coast in about a week, and who would rather spend extra time by the sea than on another long drive to Thekkady. It suits travellers who like a planned route that ends in Trivandrum, so they do not have to return to Cochin for their flight or train.

A houseboat night is not listed in this itinerary, so please ask us about options. The regions are far apart, so this trip still includes several long drives.

Day-wise plan

Day 1 – Cochin to Munnar: Pick-up at Cochin and a scenic drive to Munnar, with a visit to the birthplace of Adi Shankaracharya and waterfalls on the way. Hotel check-in.

Day 2 – Munnar sightseeing: Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake and Echo Point, with tea country views. Overnight in Munnar.

Day 3 – Munnar to Alleppey: Drive to Alleppey and check in at a backwater resort. Relax by the lagoons and village surroundings.

Day 4 – Alleppey to Kovalam: Drive to Kovalam and check in. Evening at leisure by the coast.

Day 5 – Kovalam beaches and Poovar: Visit Samudra Beach, Hawa Beach and Lighthouse Beach, then an excursion to Poovar Beach.

You arrive in Cochin and leave from Trivandrum, so book your flights or trains accordingly.
Day 4 is mostly a travel day, as Alleppey and Kovalam are far apart.
Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple has strict entry rules and a dress code. Please ask us before you travel.
Munnar is cooler than the plains, so carry a light jacket. Ghat roads are winding, so carry medicines if you get motion sickness.
Swimming at Kovalam depends on sea conditions and lifeguard flags, especially in the monsoon.
Alleppey is a backwater resort stay in this package. A houseboat is not listed.

Best time to visit

September to March is generally the most comfortable season for the hills, backwaters and beaches, with December to February the coolest in Munnar. June to August is the monsoon: Kerala is very green, but heavy rain can disrupt sightseeing, and the sea at Kovalam can be rough. April and May are hot, especially on the coast.

Day 01: COCHIN – MUNNAR

After arrival at Cochin Airport/Railway Station, meet our representative and proceed to Munnar. En route, visit the birthplace of Adi Shankara and enjoy scenic waterfalls and beautiful natural views. On arrival, check in to the hotel and relax. Overnight stay at Munnar

Day 02: MUNNAR

After breakfast, proceed for Munnar sightseeing. Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams—Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni, and Kundala—and is located at 1600 meters above sea level. It was once the summer resort of the British Government in South India. Visit Mattupetty Dam, Kundala Lake, and Echo Point. Return to the hotel and relax. Overnight stay at Munnar.

Day 03: MUNNAR – ALLEPPEY

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to Alleppey. Enjoy the beautiful backwaters of Kerala and relax at the resort. Overnight stay at Alleppey.

Day 04: ALLEPPEY – KOVALAM

After breakfast, proceed to Kovalam, known as the “Paradise of the South.” Visit the famous crescent-shaped beaches—Samudra Beach, Hawa Beach, and Lighthouse Beach. Enjoy the calm blue waters and scenic surroundings. Overnight stay at Kovalam.

Day 05: KOVALAM – POOVAR – KOVALAM

After breakfast, proceed for an excursion to Poovar Beach, a stunning destination with golden sands located between the Neyyar River and the Arabian Sea. Later, return to Kovalam and relax. Overnight stay at Kovalam.

Day 06: KOVALAM – TRIVANDRUM DEPARTURE

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed to visit Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Later, transfer to Trivandrum Airport/Railway Station for departure.
